Nokia 9500s User's Manual (NOT the DVB2000 Manual)

Can anyone help with a copy of the Nokia 9500s User's Manual?

I am not after the DVB2000 software manual, but the actual User's Manual (picture attached below).

I have searched this and two other satellite forums, but each time someone asks the same question they are always referred to the DVB2000 software manual! :-(

I haven't seen that one before. The one I used to have when I had a nokia dbox was in german so I didn't even read it. Is there anything in particular you need to know about it or do you just need the manual? I know bassett uses the FTA (or something) software on his nokia so if you need to know something about it he could probably help.

I,ve never seen that instruction manual ether. My one has, a stupid picture on the front and inside front cover it states "Welcome to the Future"

But I'll bet I know what your trouble is, When you first switch it on , it states load , and quotes Asiasat 2, and nothing will load.
Just set the LNB setting to 5150, and let it churn away, regardless, of what dish LNB your using, When its finished, might take 30 minutes, it will load what ever you install, just remove the 5150, and TYPE in 11300. using the 4 0000 section, Don,t be trapped into using the 11200 setting, and if it asks for a PIN type in via the remote 1234

Thanks Vetrun, and thanks for the settings Bassett.

Those settings may help in the future, but no, that wasn't it. I haven't had any problems tuning the decoder yet, but I agree with you about the DVB2000 software ... it is a bit primitive looking. Its like going back to Dos after 10 years of MS Windows! :-)

It was the outputs on the rear that I was wondering about ... what the Scart terminals can output ... can they do RGB, S-video etc? ... what the VCR RCA output does, and what uses I can put the SCSI output to.

The pic of the Owner's manual came from an auction of a 9500s on Ebay last week, so I thought perhaps it was commonly available. Ah, well!

The European system is Scart on everything VCR's Tv C.D. DVD. and satellite. Unfortunatly we are some thing like 15 years behind in our thinking, simply because we don,t have a market for anything electricial, considering the buying volume of the european market..
The Nokia was designed as a media terminal, which should not be confussed with the newest Nokia, which was scrapped before it got of the ground..

Scart will give you RCA and S-VHS in and out, by two ways firstly the European system simply requires a Scart to scart cable, where by a complete connection can be acheived, via a 22 point connection, or you can simply buy a Scart to RCA adapter, obtainable from Jaycar, Dick Smith, or WES Components, these come in two designs out only and a switchable unit that allows in and out
Prices start at WES for $6.50 to Dick Smith for the same thing at $22.00 enough said.. or scart to scart leads $7.00 scart to RCA leads $8.65 All WES prices

Nokia is the ONLY RECEIVER that will allow you to record the full satellite data stream [logging] This is acheaved via a SCSI cable
which connects to a Computer 50 pin SCSI card and the SCSI connection on the receiver.. A while ago people used this system to log the stream and obtain all the details of a P** Service.
This is how changes to the data was recorded and read..
Not bad when the NOKIA is 15 years old, and there has NEVER been a NEW model imported, regardless of what your told or read..
To make matter worse the Nokia Factory refuse any form of factory warrenty, service, or after sales back-up, simple because they don,t consider this country a valid market.

But at the end of the day the 95 // 96 series was way ,way ahead of its time and is still considered the Ferrari of receivers.
And still is by some [myself included] even if it is slow, clunky, and somewhat of a beast, compaired to modern Receivers, and contory to popular beleaf the DVB 2000, was NEVER designed for the 95 //96 series but for the Nokia D Box, which is a totaly differant model..

So what is different about the Nokia D-Box? I thought the 9500s and D-Box were the same.

The Dbox was made for a paytv service in Germany and the origional software on it wouldn't let you do a lot of things from what I can remember. The 9200/9500 were sold as general satellite boxes. The Dbox1/9200/9500 are basically the same except some have different tuners in them which lets some of them automatically work out the symbol rate. I agree with bassett saying their a different model because they are but they are almost identical.

Personally I like DVB2000 over the FTA software. You can record video via SCSI, use Diseqc 1.2 and see what encryption a certain channel is using.

Even though you can blind scan quicker with the newer types of blind search decoders, the nokia is still one of my favourite receivers (I wish I still had one).

The origional D-box was supplied for a Pay provider in Germany,
It was very restricted in what it would do and only had German
langauge script.. Bit like our Pace 400 box..

Thanks dai, but no that wasn't it. I was after the English 9200s/9500s manual, a cover image of which I posted at the start of this thread.

Basset... try globalsat in south oz mate, bought plenty of the technosat ir7000 off those guys... price is reasonably cheap..(have got 1 or 2 here myself)
