Nokia 9660s service

Anyone in Melbourne that can service a Nokia 9660S? Even anyone in Victoria? I am having problem with the decoder box not receiving signal from the remote controller. I have checked the bettery! It takes multiple presses to get the signal accross. I feel it have to do with the transmitter end.

You can get a rough idea of whether the remote control works by pointing its beam into a digital camera and watching the camera display. You will be able to see if the infra-red diode(s) have output. Common problems with remote controls include dirty contacts on the PCB and the associated conductive rubber pads or dirty battery connections.. In these cases a quick wipe with a scrap of cloth moistened with methylated spirits or isopropyl alcohol can be effective. The swabs used for cleaning skin before needle jabs work well. If you take the remote apart - ensure that the solder connections to both the IR LED and the small plastic resonator device are in good condition. The resonator is generally yellow in colour and usually mounted in proximity to the controller IC on the main printed circuit board.........

Try this ,it works,,
Remotes that refuse to work,, Do the following,
Remove the batteries
strip the thing down , remove printed board from case,
get bowl of warm soapy water, give ever thing a good scrub with a tooth brush, shake dry, leave out in Sun for the day,
re-assemble, fit batteries

You might be a GURU, but I have no wish to die young! If soemthing do go wrong with "washing" it, my parent, the real owner of the nokia would kill me! $700 unit would become a $700 door stop. Might do that later after I have tried a few other options. The camera option is my next step for now.:)

ps the chance of damage is not from water, but static discharge.

You could also try pointing your remotes at a little AM transistor radio.
Just off tune into a vacant spot in the band and press the buttons on the remote!
If you hear the "chirping"then it works!
If not... its dead. Simple eh?
Its an old trick from the trade.

If you take the remote control up close to the receiver - and point it directly into the infra-red receiver port on the front panel - do you have better results ? If so it is possible that the infra-red diode in the remote has weak output or the infra-red receiver device has poor performance. Also note that some receivers have only a narrow acceptance window for the infra-red light to strike the active device in the receiver. Ensure that the optical paths from the remote and into the receiver are clean - that is - the plastic windows on both remote and receiver. The only other suggestion I have at this time is to try to find a similar remote and perform some tests to help decide whether the fault is in the remote or the receiver. Perhaps find someone with another Nokia receiver and test your remote on their receiver.

I was willing to buy another remote but have not found one that works with this model yet. I am looking for a programmable remote to do the next test. I feel it might be a design fault. This remote have a "angled"window on the front. Not like normal remotes. I feel the IR signal might be reflected by the angle and spreaded out more. I can press the same key at the same location multiple time and only one or two of the pressed signal would get to the receiver.

So check with them first, get a price, then into the bucket it goes.

I have already contacted satworld. The replacement remote don't work with the Nokia 9660S. That is what the guy told me over the phone. I know the ad on their web page says it works with 96xx.

Faith I have, spare lifes I don't have! Anyway 90% sure the transmitter is transmitting. :(

recently had a mulfunction with my digital receiever. Opened the box took out the motherboard and cleaned it with contact cleaner spray, kept for about three hours to dry. when assembled worked fine.
