How do Guy's?!

I have one of these. Does anyone else?

I am not sure if it is me or there is a problem with my setup.

I have several issues with it, for instance the other night I was watching TV and decided to turn it off and then back on again using the red button on the remote. I wanted to see what the time was. I noticed that I had lost various channels and with another restart I lost more. I had B1 and C1 and it was the C1's that disappeared.

Next morning I discovered that the TP's were missing. It was almost like the reciever was doing its own factory default?

Also I have noticed that the system clock was well the next morning when I looked at it. Could this be connected to the Moteck H-H that I have just installed? Could it be consuming too much power?

When I am editing the 'channel List", I notice that sometimes the thing will freeze up neccetating (spelling) a re boot.

I sat for 9 hours when I first got it waiting for the satellite to come back on. Then I did a re start and everything was working properly. My freind has one as well and they have had the the no reception thing but we put it down to the Wet west Coast weather and the fact we are using 76cm dishes rather than something bigger.

THe manufacturers wonder what my dish is etc but I can not see that the dish would affect the actual working of the set.

I am aware that these things are basically computers that are dedicated to one use but knowing computers.........

Anyone have similar stories with this type of symptoms?

Any ideas?

Over to decoders.

You could remove the Moteck and see if the problems persist, otherwise I think it might be broke (highly technical explanation). ;)

I can't see how the dish would have anything to do with it either.

The only connection between the dish and the receiver is the 14 // 18 volt line, which switches to control the Moteck, then when the dish is repossitioned, the line switches back to the LNB,,
As vetrun said, disconnect the moteck,,, But it sounds like a power supply problem, involveing the 14 // 18 volt supply.

THanks Guy's. Thats about what I figured too.

I have been in touch with the tech's and they said to return it and thats what I will do soon.

I brought a Topfield 3200, plugged it in and apart from a few teething issues with me learning to drive it it works.

Apart from one thing. When I tell the STB - via the remote control - to go from B1 to B3 it does. THen when I want to go back it won't.

I end up having to manually move it by going into the INSTALLATION MODE.

Any ideas why the dish will not work?

The Strong STB works the dish motor okay but the topfield doesn't. Both are Diseq 1.2 compliant and the top field is also USALS as well although I don't use that method of calibration.

Another strange thing is ABC TV. I used to have it on B1 12,258, 12,260 and 12,261. I lost it when ABC did their fibre optic link and so did my freind. Now I still can not get it but they have had it come back not many days later. They still watch it and I am unable to get it on the new Topfield either????

How long can the coax cable feed be? I am wondering if low voltage is the issue?

Does anyone understand how the H-H motor works in with the STB?

im having the same problem on my reciever. It freezes especially when you edit the channel list. Some times when you switch it on it has no signal untill you reboot it.

Hee Hee!

I shouldn't laugh really.

I sent the first one back and it was replaced under warranty with another - I never did find out what was wrong with the first one, of course why would they tell me?!

THe second one was later software version than the first.

This one does okay but from time to time it throws a wobbly for some unknown reason. I have to disconnect from the mains supply and re boot it. I can't wait for the day I can afford another one and really 'boot' this'n.

I also find it won't move the dish at times and I have re point it and re save the position and away it goes. That's stress I could do without.

I won't be ever buying another strong mostly due to the lack of support I got to my enquires. I suspect it is a software issue myself but I cannot rule out a voltage spike or something as I live next door to a small power station and here on the west coast we do get lightening which could cause a problem and I would not know it.

This is all probably of not much help though to you Rusty but what more can one say :).

I had a Strong 4620, after a few months of Headache even with the help of Wozza n Basset ,I got it fixed and quickly sold it a family friend who works 10 hours a day and like to watch a few channels.when she has time from her newly born son.
But it is still working, when I went to pay a visit n inserted new freqs.
We have a so called agent in Brisbane.

What does the wide band option do? It will give you access to the 22kHz switch but will it pick up the Ku?

Another reason for not buying Strong.

But my family/ friends who only looks at AsiaSat 3, is happy with the trade n I am a phone away if he needs my guidance.
so far after a year it is still going. n I will be here for him, after the 12 months warranty period, where the original l seller would have gone.after 12 months.
But ,he only he paid half the original cost.

Yep i paid only $80 NZD for mine and its fine. Only plays up if you do lots of channel editing. If you just watch tv its fine.
