Just a basic question here from me please - just curious how a blind search receiver searches for signals without having to put in any details...does it only search the 1 bird or more and does it search both H & V?
Oh and curious, are they worth having?
Thank you..:)

I reckon their a great little box for the money. Sure they have a few probs, but these are being addressed.
There are a number of scanning options. Blind search searches between set parametres or ones that you set. Both H and V if required.
If you are sure you have all transponders entrered then a sat search is a lot quicker. Or you can search just one TP.
No they dont go from bird to bird searching. Mine is hooked up via diseqc to a 90 on a motek. I tell the dish where to go, say NSS6 and search it, then back to say B3 and search it. I have got dedicated search channels set up so it doesnt get rid of anything (say a feed) that is currently switched off. I also loop out of the powtek into another box where i enter the freqs in manually.

are they worth having?
You bet! Otherwise you have to rely on info from someone else for frequencies etc. They are not expensive and make a great second box.

Thank you very much and exactly the answers I was looking for, ta..:)
1 more if I may please - again sorry if it's dumbo question but do they come with imbedded cam or slots or is it only for FTA?

Whats a cam slot??

Powtek's don't have cam slots or any embedded CAS. They are just a FTA receiver. I use mine for my motorized C band dish because it supports diseqc 1.2 so it powers my vbox to move the big dish. It's great being able to scan a satellite in around 15 Minutes without having to enter all the frequencies manually.

Vetrun- I can't understand this figure of 15 minutes quoted to blind scan a satellite. For fun I just scanned ( Powtek ) on Asiasat3 albeit with a smaller dish than yours and found 36 tps and 174 services in 7 minutes. A scan of C1 took 6 minutes and found 21 tps and 178 services. This seems to be less than 15 minutes. One thing I found today was that the Powtek does not find on Asiasat3 3706H 6000 Ks/s ' Channel News Asia but the equally cheap Topfield 3200 does. Powtek won't even find this in manual search mode - weird. Powtek will also not find SAB TV on 3743V 3300 unless 'forced' to. i.e. will not find this in blind search mode even though this service has 80%Q when forced. ??? They are a handy little box these Powteks but don't find everything !

My figure of 15 minutes was on say B1, when you go into blind search mode, dont adjust any parameters, and hit start.... ie 11700 to 12750,2000 to 45k,hor & ver......

The 15 minutes is just a guess, not exact :)
It will probably miss something now and again but when I used to scan with my old nokia it would still miss the odd channel now and again.

This is now explained. I have become accustomed to adjusting the parameters in blind scan mode to obtain faster results whilst BLINDLY detecting the actual satellite I am looking at after manually adjusting the magic UGLY polar mount thing. Have learned much in last few months and appreciate help from all quarters. Thanks fellas !

What I Have found for the powtek is that after a blind search you do a sat search on transponders found and it corrects errors and finds some off the missing channels, but not Imparja.
Also for Measat 2 it won't find anything but if you adjust the symbol rate to close to the 41500 it will find A-Sky-Net channels

That's odd. My Powtek finds A-SkyNet just fine on a blind scan of Measat2.

I think i've asked this question before here in Vetrun, but i've lost the reply/answer so please forgive me,& here it is.......What is the better blindsearch reciever the Powtec or the Innovia ??? I know they are both made in the same factory, and use the same firmwear? But does one have more features than the other,or better recieving abilities/sensitivity? Better warranty/after sales service & support? Price? Which is BEST?

I'm fairly sure they are exactly the same hardware and firmware so it doesn't really matter which one you buy. As for after sales service the site sponser (www.adigitalife.com) is excellent to deal with and they sell the powtek. I don't know of anywhere else that sells the powtek or innova so I can't comment on them.

I have the powtek by comparing info on the web it looks like they are nearly identical the only difference I can see is
Innovia has S-video port where the powtek has S-video throught the Scart.
Powtek has two RCA video audio outputs Innovia has one.
Both have different cases.
German site with pictures of Innovia software

if you want a review, get a copy of the latest telesatellite magazine, they have the Powtek on review.

Yalickit I would appreciate a scan of that article to my email address please.
That reminds me while the exchange rates so damn good I must sub to it.
Now the innovia question, these are Powteks, Powteks are Innovia yaddda yadda yadda
Been through this before, apear to be the exact same hardware and software.
OK ports at the back of innovia are RF modulator, two sets of AV (rca) and 2 scarts.
The outputs are usually OPTIONAL from the factory, skew control is a factory option.
The ones imported for sale into NZ by Satmax www.satmax.ws
have the twin scarts, twin rca +RF modulator option
Thats 5 video outputs which is plenty! it may be possible that another factory option involves them replacing one of the RCA outputs with a svideo connector

I have a superjack dg-120 which is the same thing as a Moteck
If you need help
well best to start a new thread about it
If anyone wants to make a Tutorial how to set one up i have some files that can help that we can modify to make our own local tutorial.

Thanks for your reply,i've found some interesting stuff by doing a search for "Motec" in the sister site "Austech"....But i agree we should have a thread here about the "Motec H-H Mount SG-2100 digipower motor", as it is a very good/popular device..for our hobby...and it's somewhat confusing...eg;what elevation/latitude to set the motor on;what angle to set the dish on;setting the LNB;finding the correct"arc" for the "Clarke Orbit";installing the motor upside-down or normal(i've seen pics on the net of both!)??Very confusing !!!!!!!!!!!

Agreed Firebird! We are in the process of compiling a Tutorial on the Motek. It'll take a week or two to get it into easy to read terms. If anyone wants to contribute anyrthing towards the manual pleas let me or apsattv know.
