Satellite DVD Recorders

Gday,

I have just purchased and awaiting delivery of a Panasonic DVD recorder that features a DVB-S tuner, 160GB HDD and DVD-RAM, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVDRW and DVD-DL burner......... It has the European sats in memory but can add all transponder details to them for the local birds. I am unsure if Whole satellites can be added or not..

How many people here have tried a unit like this???

James.

I've never seen one. I'm a fan of the USB hdd now so it's a case of burning a DVD/CD on your PC.

Leroy

P.S. it's not Hi Def DVB-S2!!

I know .. was one of those - ooh thats a good idea and impulse purchases... Region 2 so wld have to copy and dvd's made on it on the pc and remove region code at the same time too.... Will buy me a xmas prezzie tho - the HD DVB-S2 Receiver - Kinda annoying I cant get the perfect box for me tho and the 700 odd I saw for a 4:2:2 box was a bit steep for me (gov pension )... I will look into your receivers again soon

There is no perfect box. You need to find the one that best suits you. This is why I have a few boxes as there is no all in one perfect box yet!

The perfect box for me would probably be made by Dream....

would feature:

2 x Tuners (modular so could swap DVB-S2/DVB-T etc)
Built in HDD (500GB Min)
Linux OS
DVD Burner (PC SATA drive for easy replacement) (DVD-RAM / RW / DL etc)

4:2:2 - Possibly via software
Blindscan (hardware)

HDMI out
Component out
Ethernet - Streaming and data transfer
Esata for additional HDD
USB for data playback (movies, music, pictures etc) & Keyboard for easy input of channel names / data
Optical Audio out
Coax Audio out
2x CAM slots
1x Card slot

Powered by a seperate "wall wart"

The linux OS due to the fact that ppl can write their own software for it for burning, music jukebox, editing of recordings, etc etc

What else???

Anyone else??

I guess a small HTPC would fit the bill (but at a higher cost!!)

I think 2 Tuners isn't enough, I have 150+ channels now, so maybe 300 Tuners (to allow for further expansion)and inbuilt 17"LCD screens for each channel would be ok.

Shouldn't use more than 100w and should cost around the $70AUD mark.

Anyone else?
